Invitro-fertilization used to make yourself pregnant with triplets or twins?

I know that women use invitro-fertilization to get pregnant when they cannot get pregnant on their own, but I was wondering if you could use it just because you wanted to have twins or triplets. (When you can get pregnant on your own.)

I don't want to do it, so please don't get over zealous with your response, I was just wondering if it was possible.

  1. me too if you can do it on your own then do it that way

  2. It would not be possible because no doctor or clinic would use in-vitro on a woman who did not have fertilty problems, and no insurance company would pay for it.

(And good doctors who use in-vitro in women WITH fertility problems do their best to reduce the risk of multiples.  Multiples are far more likely to be born prematurely and/or have serious health issues.

  3. It absolutely could happen. If someone was to find a doctor willing, but there is not guarantee that your body would sustain a multiples pregnancy until birth, anything can go wrong with IVF, just like with any other pregnancy!

  4. Sure it's possible. There are doctors out there who will do anything if the patient has the cash. However, no doctor could guarantee you would get pregnant much less with multiples.

  5. I think a good fertility doctor wouldn't do it because there are so many couples out there who can't get pregnant on their own, that they would want to focus on them.

  6. I doubt an RE would want to do IVF on a healthy woman with no fertility issues.  Multiples have higher rates of birth defects and health problems.  Why risk a malpractice lawsuit?

  7. Most ethical Dr's wouldn't do it, there are actually newer laws in place to try and limit the # of embryos transferred in hopes of lowering the percentage of multiples born via IVF. However there are going to be RE's out there who'd do it if you had the money in hand.

** it is expensive however neither the egg retrieval procedure or embryo transfer are at all painful..your out for the retrieval and the transfer is the same as getting a catheter put in but easier.

  8. I believe it is unethical for doctors to do in-vitro on women who are capable of getting pregnant the old-fashioned way.

  9. it is possible, i think some celebrities have been doing it..

but it's expensive and  i hear egg retrieval is painful.

  10. not in the uk, the fertility business is heavily regulated, unlike in usa where you can sell/buy anything,,,even baby's.
