Inxile preferred over Fire Lily in www.bettor.com Flying Five Stakes at Curragh
Fire Lily might find it very difficult against some seasoned campaigners over five furlongs. Inxile would probably prefer slightly harder surface, but still looks solid in the www.bettor.com Flying Five Stakes, which has attracted a strong British entry
at Curragh.
On Sunday afternoon, eight star runners will compete on a heavy ground in search of a cash prize worth €39,000. The officials are due to start the Group 3 meeting at 15:10 GMT.
After a few unlucky rides, Inxile finally managed to register his first victory of the season earlier this month. The audience at Tipperary saw him bagging the big prize by one and a half lengths in the Abergwaun Stakes (Listed Race).
The going was soft to heavy, but David Nicholls’ trainee handled things quite nicely to take an early advantage. He responded well to pressure to repel the challengers approaching final furlong, and stayed on well in the final stages.
Under Adrian Nicholls, the 7-year-old gelding looked pretty impressive in the dying moments, as he did not allow anyone to take the game away from him. The gelding will be ridden by the same jockey in almost similar conditions. So, his chances of putting
up an equally good show are quite bright.
Out of others, Fire Lily looks to be the strongest one. Winning two of previous three races shows how good rhythm the filly is in these days. After being trounced badly in the Group 1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket, the 3-year-old quickly brought things under
control, and displayed a wonderful show in the Group 3 Patrick P. O'Leary Memorial Phoenix Sprint Stakes here earlier this month.
The David Wachman-trained is certainly in good shape at the moment, but coming up with a winning effort over this minimum trip will not be a child’s play. Therefore, one should not trust her blindly in a race of this nature.
According to our calculations, it will be a very close battle between Inxile and Fire Lily. The former is coming off a comprehensive victory over five furlongs, and should be preferred. We wish the best of luck to all the runners.
