http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Inzamam-ul-Haq-c64383: PCB has divided the team in two groups
There has been a lot of criticism following the decision taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), of not naming the captain for the World Cup, which is due to start from 19th of February, 2011. The most recent critic of the decision was former
captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.
According to the former great, PCB has given rise to a controversy which will not be in favour of the team and will affect the team’s chances in the World Cup. He said, “By not announcing the captain just three weeks before the World Cup, the board has split
the players into http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 and Misbah-ul Haq groups. It looks to me their fate will be the same what was in 2003 and 2007”
Inzamam said that he doesn’t expect any wonders from the team under this crisis. He said, “I just don't understand what they are trying to do. In such circumstances I don't have much high hopes from this team in the coming tournament.”
However, the legendary batsman who represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in 120 tests and 388 One Day Internationals (ODIs) said that the Pakistan team does have the ability to surprise their opponents.
Pakistan had been struck by many controversies during the 2010 season. The team didn’t do well in any of the series that they played and were simply below par. Shahid Afridi was appointed as the new ODI and Twenty20 captain of the team but he wasn’t able
to lead the team out of trouble.
Under the captaincy of Afridi, the team played nine ODI and T-20 series out of which the team only won two T-20 series. All the other series were lost.
The biggest crisis that hit the team last year was when three leading players, Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif were suspended by the International cricket Council (ICC), following spot-fixing allegations leveled against them.
Following the suspension of the test captain Butt, PCB had to appoint a new test captain and shockingly, they picked http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972. Not so shocking, when you consider that they gave themselves no other options.
The team had lost a test series against England and had to face the world number 2 ranked team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 1-0.
Fortunately for Misbah, the team won under his captaincy and there are speculations that the PCB want him as the ODI captain, ahead of the ICC World Cup 2011. According to reports, the Board members think that Misbah will be the right man to lead the team
in the mega event. However, the PCB not surprisingly, were uncertain and didn’t name the captain in the 15-member squad for the World Cup.
