Ioda Racing Project team owner Giampiero Sacchi reveals Moto3 class engine – MotoGP news
Ioda Racing Project team owner Giampiero Sacchi revealed their Moto3 type 250cc four-stroke engine at the MotoGP Mugello event.
The new Moto3 class will replace the present 125cc category with a number of new regulations.
Giampiero Sacchi said, “This is the second step of the Ioda project, the third will be in the fall, when we present the bike for next year’s World Championship. It all started on October 26 last year in Estoril, with the presentation of the TR001 (a prototype
bike).”
He recalled that day to be an important milestone in the project. Sacchi called in Papetti, now project leader, to start the engine development. After completion, the team and its owner are proud to present it for their fans at the Italian venue.
Sacchi’s team Ioda Racing will consist of two riders, Mattia Pasini and Simone Corsi. The other important part of the bike, the chassis, will be revealed in September 2011 as expected by the team owner.
He also added that the team is not worried about the presence of Japanese giant motorcycle manufacturer, Honda. Sacchi is determined to race and compete with any team and is looking forward to the debut season for Moto3.
Sacchi said, “Moto3 is a category where the necessary technology isn’t only available to the big manufacturers, but also to small engineering firms. What these small firms lack in production capacity then can make up for with close client relationships.
This class is very interesting, it is an inviting challenge.”
Sacchi has claimed according to the testing that the new engine, named EMIR GP3, is producing 50 horsepower. He further said the new engine has also been tested with kart chassis and underwent a durability test.
The Ioda Racing team’s engine was built in collaboration with Robby Motor Technology. Both the companies have also formed a new company named EMIR after which the new engine has been named.
