The Australian Open finalist, Schuettler is excited about his partnership of organising the event. The German icon, who reached career high ranking at number five in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings on April 2004, is looking forward to make
this a great event in future. He reflected:
"For me, it is great to come from the tennis playing side to now getting involved in tournament organisation. I am looking forward in the years to come to build a great event there.”
The tournament will be held a week before the French Open. As a result it will help players to warm-up for this second of the four Grand Slam events held in Paris, France.
Previously, this tournament took place between teams from different countries. However, with this new format, more top class players will be attracted at this outdoor clay court event.
This season, teams from Serbia, Czech Republic, Germany, Russia, Croatia, Argentina, Japan and United States took place. Among these teams, Tomas Berdych was the highest ranked player at this tournament.
With this new format, David Ferrer, Nicolas Almagro and many top 10 players will be attracted at this event in order to build-up for Roland Garros. In addition to this, players from any country will be welcome at this event. Prior to this tournament, the
World Team Cup only allowed eight countries and their contestants to participate.
