    It's still Cl but it's gained an electron to have a negative charge, hence the "-"...

    Take table salt, NaCl the Cl gains an electron from the sodium so the two ions are Na+ and Cl-.


  2. Cl - is correct.  This is commonly called the chloride ion (eg, salt is sodium chloride, NaCl)
