Iowa State Cyclones’ Austen Arnaud ruled out for the rest of the season
Iowa State Cyclones quarterback Austen Arnaud has been ruled out for the rest of the season, brining his college career to an unceremonious end.
Arnaud suffered a serious knee injury in his club’s 34-14 loss to the Colorado Buffalos on 13 November. The senior is said to need reconstructive surgery on his left knee and therefore will not be back for the Cyclones' final game or a possible bowl appearance.
Arnaud was a three-year starter for the Cyclones and leaves the school as the career leader in completion percentage, and is second in passing yards with 6,777. Arnaud also recorded 42 touchdowns in his four-year career with Iowa State.
The Cyclones have had a fairly productive year in the difficult Big 12 and are currently at 5-6 with a 3-4 record against conference opponents. Iowa State was hoping to make some noise in the Bowl Championship Series standings by putting together a strong
non-conference schedule. However, the club was unable to keep pace with their conference opponents and could not put together a convincing season.
The injury to Arnaud is particularly disappointing considering the Cyclones are only one game away from qualifying for bowl eligibility. Unfortunately, the squad only has one game left and it is against the number 15 ranked Missouri Tigers. The Cyclones
are unlikely to do much damage against a two-loss Missouri side without their starting quarterback.
Arnaud will be replaced by sophomore quarterback Jerome Tiller, who has only played in three games this season. So far this year Tiller has managed 208 yards and one touchdown for a 91.71 quarterback rating.
This season with the Cyclones, Arnaud was able to record 1,703 passing yards and 13 touchdowns, while earning a quarterback rating of 116.19.
