  1. This is what I would expect.

The DHCP server would allocated an ip address to each NIC.

The Ethernet card and the USB interface will present different Media Access Codes (MAC) to the DHCP server, which would then offer a to lease a different ip address.

  2. do you mean when connected to your router/modem?? if so then they are still the same

  3. What is the question...?

If you mean is an IP address differently made from a USB ethernet adapter or a PCI ethernet adapter, the answer is no.

  4. This is because the hardware has different MAC ID

This is how it keeps from assigning the same IP Address which would cause a conflict. Just use the Ethernet connection it is better.

  5. Hello,

(ANS) There is No! such thing as an IP address on USB. I think your confusing the two technologies here?

**USB is ONLY a connection technology it doesn't itself use IP addressing.

**IP addressing is a system used by Ethernet or Dailup networking interfaces that use the TCP/IP stack. NOTE: IP addresses are bound to the network adapter in normal networking.

**The IP address can be static (manually assigned, i.e. physically written in) or dynamically assigned by a DHCP server from the ISP end of the connection. From the ISP's Radius server.

**An IP address is always VERY specific it just like a phone number, if the phone number is totally wrong you wont get connected. IP address's take the following format :- x*x.x*x.x*x.x*x or such as 361.295.168.25 with a sub net mask of 255.255.255.000.
