  1. in laymans term

    ipconfig

-this will give you the ip configuration

it will display the ip address, subnet mask and the default gateway

    -ipconfig/release

this will usually release the ip address assigned to your computer before you can renew the ip address assuming that your computer is set to obtain ip address automatically. so you do this first before ipconfig/renew

    -ipconfig/renew

this will assign new ip address on your computer assuming that your computer is set to obtain ip address automatically

ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew wont work if you manually set the ip address on your pc in other words we call it static ip address. static ip addresses are usually given by your internet service provider in order for you to be able to connect to the internet. if your ISP didnt give you any ip address then its possible that your ip address is a dynamic ip or an automatic ip address in which case those commands are applicable

usually we use ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew if there is a problem with internet connection.

for example if your computer is receiving an invalid ip then you can use those commands.
