i was thinking about buying an iphone 3g but i was wondering if youcan unlock the phone without buying it at an AT&T store or apple without signing a2 yr contract. anyone have an idea?

I think the iPhone is probably not a good choice for you.  Try looking at other mobile devices that more fit your needs.

you cannot unlock it. you could buy it on ebay, but buying from the store will require a new contract
