Ipod Touch 2.0 Software Update

Question

i have an ipod touch, and i want the new 2.0 update, but i heard that if you update it will delete all the files on your ipod, and you have to back it up before you update it. But the computer I'm using only has about 1.4 GB of space left and my ipod is about 9 GB. How do i install the update without deleting all my files?

i just updated mine and the update is good...i dont remember erasing all files but if you do if you have to then reput it on there from your i tunes...or get an external hard drive...then just back it up on there hope this helps
