Ok so 2 days ago I was going to my friends house to go swimming. I brought along my Ipod Nano but me, being the idiot I am, forgot about it in my pocket and went for a swim...so 2 hours later I remember I have it with me. The battery was already dead before I left If that helps at all, I've had it propped in an upright position ever since then and havent turned it on. There is some water in the screen but not as much as 2 days ago. So what more can I do or is all hope lost?

  1. I heard you can cover it in uncooked rice, this will absorb some of the moisture.

  2. put it in a bag of uncooked raw rice and hope for the best.

  3. First thing... don't apply any power until you believe it's entirely dry.. that can only make things worse.

Since this is a nano, you're at least free of any worries of s******g up an HDD.

Since you totally submerged it, I could recommend trying alcohol. If you can get some ~100% alcohol (rubbing alcohol will work), immerse it in the alcohol for 10 minutes, then get back to drying. You want lots of alcohol, in a pan or bowl. The idea here... alcohol doesn't harm electronics... in fact, it's often used for cleaning electronics. And it also sucks up water like crazy. So this can get some of the water out of the inner workings of your iPod better than most anything else.

The bowl-of-rice idea others mentioned can work, though that's really what you wanted to do two days ago.

Either with or without the alcohol bath, you should leave it in a warm dry place ... out in the sun, in a sunny window, car window, etc... you need to get the sucker as dry as possible. I'd give it at least a week before applying power.

If it's dry, it probably will work, initially anyway. The other fear, which you can't do a whole lot about, is whether the water will cause any corrosion inside, which might not be obvious for awhile, but could eventually see buttons or connectors failing. Some of these are gold plated in some electronic devices (gold doesn't corrode), but given the mass production of the iPod, you never know.

  4. Sounds dead to me. If it doesn't charge, it obviously got damaged. Maybe you can talk to Apple about this and they will give you a new one for free or for a small price.

  5. try these links and watch the video:

    and

    http://www.switched.com/2007/11/10/can-y...

like these guys siad put it into rice it worked because this happened to me ipod touch and it was recovered by rice it sonds crazy but until you watch the video you will be amazed

  6. You're NOT going to get a free one because Apple does not cover accidents/abuse like this.  If you bring it into your local Apple retailer, you'll get 10% on a new iPod.
