Ipod help...ipod sad face icon

Question

My ipod wont start. All i see is a sad ipod icon followed by a link to www.apple,com support, I followed all the instructions at the apple website. I have reached the point where i have to force my ipod into disk mode and it went into disk mode. problem is when i connect it to my computer itunes still cannot detect my ipod and after a few seconds it goes back to that apple logo and sad face ipod icon. can someone help me please

This isn't much help but if you have a warranty to the store you bought it from they HAVE to replace it for these type of situations. Or you can call the Apple company and if they can't help you fix it over the phone they'll most likely ask you to send it to them, so then they can send you a new one.

Is your "Hold" button on? Make sure it's off.

Try holding the center button and the "up" part of the clickwheel down for a few seconds. This will reset it (your songs will still be there).

If that doesn't work, try restoring the software via iTunes. You will wipe out your music, but you can always reload it from your hard drive.

If it's still under warranty, Call AppleCare.

A last option that works (but is controversial) is to drop or smack your iPod against something. Mine (4th gen. clickwheel) started coming up with the "sad iPod" icon last Thursday. I read about this fix online and tried it. I dropped my iPod onto a cardboard box from about three feet up. It actually worked! My iPod works fine now.
