  1.       Yes. You do need to install tunes. Here is a link http://www.apple.com/ca/itunes/download/ next there are three ways of getting songs on your ipod. Make sure your ipod is plugged in first.

1.You can just buy the songs off of the Itunes store which is the easiest but it costs a buck a song. First, you need to be on line, next you click the itunes store button on the left side and search for the song you want in the top right corner then, after getting an itunes account, you buy the songs you want. you then drag and drop all of the  music files into the icon that says "ipod nano" on the left side

         2. You can download from limewire http://www.limewire.com/ once your songs are finished downloading you open up itunes, click file>add file to library, and select which ever music file you want, you then drag and drop all of the  music files into the icon that says "ipod nano" on the left side

         3. You can rip CD's that you already have by putting it in the disk drive of your computer, a message will pop up and says something like  "would you like to rip this CD?" And you click yes and everything appears in your itunes music library, you then drag and drop all of the  music files into the icon that says "ipod nano" on the left side

For videos its a little bit different, there are two ways of doing that.

         1. repeat the other step one

         2. download them from limewire and convert them using this   http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/i... once it is done it will automatically go to your itunes video librairy then you drag and drop all of the files into your ipod.

hope this helps! If you have any problems just tell me.
