  1. open iTunes and go to HELP in the upper tool bar.  select check for updates from the drop down menu.  allow the update to take place if need be.  this is really important and every time you get the pop up that a new update is available in iTunes allow it to update.  this is the software that allows the iPod to communicate with your computer.  Recently there have been more updates and this is due to the new products that Apple has just released (new iPhone).

If this doesn't fix your problem ... go to CONTROL PANEL > then add/remove programs.  select iTunes then REPAIR program and you should be good to go!!

  2. Firstly make sure you have the latest apple itunes software. This is one of the most common reasons for faults with ipods

Secondly check that your cable is not damaged. If a friend has a spare cable then ask to borrow theirs and see if it then works if it does you will need to buy a new cable (around £15)

Then check the usb port is not damaged, so either use another usb port on the laptop/computer or test another device in it for example a mouse and see if that registers the connection

Next reset your ipod...do this by holding the play and middle button down for 15 seconds this will wipe everything off of your ipod

If none of this works you will need to phone up apple which is ecpensive

  3. Bring it to the Apple store get a new one.
