Ipod touch 2.0.1 update?

Question

ok i just got on to itunes to download [a little bit longer] from [the jonas brothers] and it said when i hooked up my ipod that there is ANOTHER update available!

I cant afford to keep buying these updates every other month and im soo nawt jailbreaking.

are these updates absolutely necessary??? or are they recommended but not necessary??

Don't worry about this one costing alot, it's free! I reccommend you do the update in the morning or afternoon though, because im doing mine now and it takes FOREVER to backup the files, its already been 2 hours and only halfway done. good luck!
