Ipod touch freezing/crashing?

i have an ipod touch with the iphone software upgrade on it and i had alot of apps. all of a sudden it crashes alot and sometimes wont even start up and just stay on the screen with the apple logo on it till it runs out of battery. is there anything i can do?
