It connected o.k in the morning, added a few tracks and ejected ipod as you should. Came to use it later on and it is making whirring and clicking noise. I have tried to reset, hold switch on-off-centre button-menu on ipod.Apple icon flashes on then goes off as if not able to fully boot up.

So switched to disk mode centre button and play-pause.It now will show up in my computer and when I right click it says to reset using itunes which then boots up. But I have had it connected for about an hour and it won't show my ipod in itunes to be able to reset.

There is no warranty on it and other than taking it to repair (cost).

I was thinking of buying a new one and selling this one but to have it repaired just to sell is gutting.

Has anybody else had this problem and what happened to fix,and roughly how much for repair????

  1. This sounds alot like what happened to mine + I also couldnt take it back as there was no warranty left, So we claimed on the House Insurance for it and then with the money a bought a new one

    x

  2. This sounds like you have  a fatal disk error.

if you can get it back into itunes in disk mode try instead of update or restore. using  disk utility (mac) or disk check (Windows) and reformat the disk then check it for errors.

then when you have reformatted the disk then try RESTORE form itunes.

THIS IS A WARNING that the disk is about to fail due to too many physical errors (dropped a few too many times)

a repair direct at an apple shop has offered a fixed price in my store its £75+VAT for a disk replace or £30+VAT for a battery on the Gen 5 or 5.5 models.

  3. this happened to my ipod just before christmas

it sounds like its dead, or on its way out

my mum took mine back to the apple shop even after warranty ran out

get it looked at before you get rid of it

see if they can fix it, if they cant

they'll probably give you discount on a new ipod (i did, with warranty ran out)

i had 20gb ipod classic, we got discount on 80gb ipod video

so all worked out, hope it does for you!
