my Ipod is almost 2 years old, its a 5th generation video.

I use it a lot, and it shows.

for the past 7 or 8 months only one headphone has been working, now they have bothstoppedd working all together this week. i admit that i wish i had taken better care of it, so is it worth starting over and getting a new ipod?

  1. Uh - did you try new headphones? I have an OG - 2nd Gen and it still works though I've replaced my headphones a few times.

  2. Getting it back an running is pretty easy, even if you do it yourself.  The problem you describe seems to be a worn audio jack (audio jack, hold switch flex cable assy).  You could go to ebay and order the replacement plus a new battery and not be out more than $20 if you're comfy with DIY jobs.  I's probably a half hour job if you've never done it before.  Youtube has lots of DIY ipod videos to show how to do it.

For another $15 or so, you could get a new outer case/shell and have (basically) a new iPod for less than the cost of a basic Shuffle.

Refurbish, recycle, renew - it's easy enough to do it  yourself or contact one of the online iPod folks (I do refurbs too, please email if only to help walk you through doing it yourself.)

  3. There are services on the internet that can repair the bad headphone jack for you for a reasonable fee, do a search for "ipod repair service".

They can also sell you the part and some even provide a tool to open the ipod with as well as a step by step video so you could do the repair yourself.

I replaced a cracked screen with a new one in under 30 minutes, total cost was $38...your results may vary~ just depends on how handy you are with small electronic devices, but they are pretty simple once you open them up and view the guts.

  4. naw, I also had my iPod for 2 years and then the battery started to die, and got messed up.. I didn't wanna get another iPod so I bought a mp3 instead.. It's a lot better than an iPod and I love it!

    try looking at these:

  5. I am positive the headphone jack is busted (I had the same thing happen with my iPod's headphone jack,) and there is no reason to buy a new one (unless of course you really want a new one..)

http://www.ifixit.com sells headphone jack replacements for 30 bucks. It's extremely easy to replace yourself; the instructions are on their website. (I did mine in about 10 minutes.) And I suggest you buy an eye-glass repair kit for the extra screws & mini s***w driver in case you lose a s***w.

In the long run you will save yourself a LOT of money.

    Good luck.
