Ipswich Town suffers Mark Kennedy blow
Ipswich Town manager Roy Keane has confirmed that full back Mark Kennedy faces at least three weeks in the treatment room with a hamstring injury.
Kennedy pulled up during the 2-1 defeat to Coventry City at the weekend. The news will be a huge blow to Ipswich as the club looks to build on an impressive sixth position in the Championship table.
"It is a blow for us and a blow for him.
He will have a scan later but he has damaged his hamstring and will be out for two or three weeks," said Keane.
Kennedy is one of the most experienced players in Ipswich and his absence will leave a huge hole in the defence. However, Ipswich cannot rush him back because a half fit
player could lead to more goals being conceded and more games being lost.
A big miss
The 34-year-old Irishman will be a big miss because he has more experience than a lot of other players in the club. His career includes 167 appearances for Wolverhampton
Wanderers and 66 appearances for Cardiff City.
This experience is key because a lot of younger players at Ipswich will look up to Kennedy for help and guidance. He will also be an important figure in keeping others
calm before big Championship and FA Cup games. This is priceless to a side that is trying to upset the odds and gain promotion to the Premier League.
Ipswich does not have a replacement full back that will be as effective in the attacking third of the pitch. Kennedy is very good at getting forward and sending crosses
into the box for strikers to get on the end of.
"It's not the same hamstring as he did on the opening day, it's the
other leg. We will miss him as he is an experienced player," added Keane.
Betting advice
The best approach for the next one or two games is to bet in play and see how Ipswich reacts. It will quickly be clear if the defence is going to fall apart while Kennedy
cannot take his place in the side.
