Former Pakistani cricketer, Iqbal Qasim, has been appointed as the Chief Selector of the national team by the Pakistan Cricket Board, following the resignation of Mohammad Ilyas, on March 01, 2012.
The appointment was announced by PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf in a briefing to the media. The chairman was accompanied by Ilyas in the press conference, where he praised his valuable contribution to the cricket board.

The ex-chief selector thanked the board for providing him with the opportunity to prove himself and added that old people have to move on and needed to be replaced by new ones.
“I have enjoyed working here,” said Ilyas.
Ilyas, who took up the responsibilities in Oct 2011, left the post following the team’s poor performances against England in the ODI and T20 series, while rumours also suggested that his resignation was influenced by the unnecessary interference in selection
matters.
The newly appointed Chief of Selectors, in his 12-year career, has represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in 50 Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals, where he has picked 171 and 12 wickets respectively. He was a good containing bowler, with an exceptional economy rate.
He remained a regular member for more than a decade and was one of the better fielders the team had at that time.
The left-arm spinner has a remarkable first-class cricket record, where he has claimed almost 1000 victims in his 246 matches.
Earlier, Qasim has served the cricket board as a member of the selection committee and in 2009, he was appointed for the first time as Chief Selector. His previous tenure however, lasted only 5 months, which ended up in a resignation,
