Iqbal Qasim rubbishes rift rumours with coach Dav Whatmore – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davenell-Frederick-Whatmore-c52571. The chief selector has called such news
to be mere speculations, holding no real value.
Qasim asserts that he is in constant contact with the Australian and is helping him understand Pakistani ways, as he is still new to the system.
Confirming that there are no conflicts with Whatmore, Qasim said, “I am in contact with Whatmore on a constant basis and I don't think we are facing any points of conflict at the moment. He is new in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755
and wants to understand the system and wants to see what we have.”
The whole conflict saga started when Whatmore was seen with discarded players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kamran-Akmal-c70122 at the National Cricket Academy.
It was reported that Whatmore wanted these players back in the national team; however, the selection committee was not interested.
Qasim feels that there is nothing wrong with having players around, who are not in contention for the national side. The chairman of selection committee wants to keep things working amicably.
Qasim, the holder of 50 Test and 15 ODI caps, said, “I know players who are out of contention are there, practising with him. There is no harm in this, but we should ensure no communication gap crops us,
sparking a clash with our strategy.”
Pakistan cricket team’s batting line-up is fairly young and fragile, that is why Whatmore is keen on bringing some senior pros back in the team. Yousaf, who has been out of the team for more than a year,
but is a class act, is on top of Whatmore’s list.
Qasim has said that the doors are not closed for aging cricketers. However, no player will be inducted into the team without proving his match fitness, held the chairman.
“But our doors aren't shut on players who are on the fringes. There is always a criterion for every player [to make their way back into the team],” said Qasim.
