Iran defeats Pakistan in first leg of Pak-Iran Bilateral Snooker Series in Tehran - Snooker news
After a close contest, Iran finally clinched the first leg of the inaugural five-day Pak-Iran Snooker Series with the score-line 25-8. The match was held on Wednesday, April 6, at the Azadi Sports Complex in Tehran.
The Iranian cuemen put up a sensational display of potting skills to secure victory at the end of the fifth day. The Iranian team of cueists was led by Ehsan Hydarinezhad, who grabbed victory in the opening match of the last day. Iran scored 48 points to
win the day’s play as well as the series, while the Pakistani squad could post only 42 points on the final day despite winning nine matches.
Sajjad shines in Iran
Pakistan’s national number three, Muhammad Sajjad, performed brilliantly in the series as he lead the squad with nine wins out of 15 matches. On the other hand, national number one, Muhammad Shahid and national championship runner-up, Imran Shahzad, could
win only five matches each.
The Asian number two, Sajjad from Sargodha, took advantage of his international experience and became the team’s top performer in the series. It was because of his performance that Pakistan led the first and the fourth day of the series. He fired three century
breaks on day four, to clinch all his three matches of the day against Ehsan Heydari Nejad, Armin Khodaparast and Ali Roshanikia.
Team manager, Shahzad Chaudhry, praised Sajjad saying that he has been their best player during the series, as he lived up to their expectations. Sajjad commented that he is also happy with his performance in the event.
Shahzad Chaudhry also admired the game standards in Iran, praising the coach of the team of Iran. He remarked that the Iranian team had P J Nolan, an English coach, who worked really hard with the players which made a lot of difference in the game-play of
the Iranian team.
This bilateral snooker series will definitely help Pakistani players to improve their performance and put themselves into international snooker events. To perform well in the future, the Pakistani team needs to contest in more events of world-class standards,
as they really need international exposure. The second leg of the Pakistan-Iran bilateral snooker series will take place in Pakistan, next year.
