The Iranian Football Federation (IFF) is set to announce former Portugal Manager, Carlos Queiroz as their new boss. There are speculations that the IFF will make a formal announcement in this regard later this week. It is believed that the Portuguese is
being offered a three-year contract worth $6 million.
The ex-Manchester United assistant coach held talks with the IFF President, Ali Kafashian in Tehran on 8 February, 2011 and reportedly agreed to the deal.
Queiroz was present during Iran’s friendly 1-0 win against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991 at the Sheikh Bayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi as a VIP guest.
“I saw the Iranian players and I have to say I like them and the formation of the team. The IFF invited me to Tehran to negotiate and have made the offer public. I cannot say anymore”, the ex-Portuguese manager said.
The 57-year old was sacked by the Portugal Football Federation in September 2010 after Portugal’s sorry start to the Euro 2012 qualifying campaign. The Euro 2008 quarter-finalist’s drew 4-4 to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Norway-c2974 in the first two matches, after
which Queiroz was relieved of his duties.
Queiroz will bring in a lot of international experience; he has managed the likes of UAE, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Japan-c2928; it was only the second time Bafana Bafana qualified for
a World Cup in its history.
He has also managed clubs like Sporting CP and Real Madrid. The Portuguese had a successful time at Old Trafford as an Assistant Manager and formed a good partnership with Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson.
