Iran sweeps Chinese Taipei in Pool A match of 16th Asian Men's Volleyball Championship
Iran and Chinese Taipei played a Pool A match of the 16th Asian Men's Volleyball Championship in Tehran, Iran at Azadi Hall No.1 on September 22. The Iranian squad was able to grab a win at 3-0 against the overpowered Chinese Taipei team.
It did not take long for the match to reach its close and determine a winner as the home team from Iran was able to make a clean sweep over Chinese Taipei. The first set of the match was completely dominated by Iran and they made an easy win out of it but
the Chinese Taipei stepped up their play in the second set and gave their opponents quite a challenge. However, the increased effort of the Chinese Taipei was not enough to stop the Iranians from winning the second set as well. Soaring high on two set wins
and the cheers of the home crowd, the Iranians were able to sail smoothly towards a third set win, sealing the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-15, 26-24 and 25-17.
The Iranians were able to dominate their rivals in almost every aspect of the match but specifically, Iran was far more superior in their blocking skills. The strong defence of the Iranians did not let the Chinese Taipei gain any headway while Iran sped
on with their relentless attack.
The start of the first set of the match saw the Iranians take the lead early on and they were able to extend their advantage to 8-1 with the coming of the first technical time out. Chinese Taipei struggled to keep pace with the powerful onslaught of the
Iranians but they could not do much except to trail behind all the way to the end. This swung the match in favour of the Iranians and they bagged the first frame at 25-15.
The second set of the match saw a changed line up in the Iranian side as the head coach of the team, Julio Velasco, brought on some bench players. This did not affect the Iranians negatively as they came out strong right from the start and put pressure on
the Chinese Taipei side by taking a lead. However, the Chinese Taipei side did not give up this time around and was able to respond positively by making leveling the score a number of times. Unfortunately for the Chinese Taipei team, the Iranians did not loosen
their grip and got another win at 26-24.
The third set of the match followed the same pattern as the first one and it was only a matter of time before Iran was able to make a win at 25-17.
