Iran sweeps Pakistan in Pool E match of Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship
Iran beat Pakistan by 3-0 in a Pool E match of the 16th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championship on September 25. The tournament is currently being held in Tehran, Iran, and the venue of the match was the Azadi Hall No.1.
Not only did Iran win the match in three back to back sets, they did so by smothering the Pakistanis in each one of the frames. The first set of the match started off with both teams level but as the frame progressed the Iranians were able to dominate their
opponents and bag a win. After the first set, the Pakistani effort slowed down and they could not put up an effective challenge to the Iranians, who won the match at the following final set scores: 25-18, 25-14 and 25-11.
Overall, the attack of the Iranians did a better job and played a key role in the victory. The Pakistani defence was feeble in front of the relentless kills that the Iranians were raining down on them.
The first set of the game started off with some friction between the two sides but before long, the Iranians were able to get themselves a lead and stretch it to a comfortable margin. The Iranian players who were vital to the attack included Mehdi Bazargard
and Arash Kamalvand. They were able to propel their team forwards in a nine point run that cost the Pakistanis dearly. On the one hand, the Pakistani attack was not doing a good job and it did not amend matters as the defence of the Pakistanis was falling
short of stopping the Iranian points from ticking on the score board. Before long, Iran had bagged the first set of the match at 25-18.
After the first set, Iran was able to come out strong in the second one as well by capitalising on the momentum generated. Seyed Mohammad Mousavi E played an important role in pushing the Iranians ahead with an early lead that shifted the pressure onto the
Pakistanis and kept them at bay. Mousavi made his presence felt by contributing both on the offensive as well as the defensive side that forced the Pakistanis to fall into errors. Before long, Iran had sped up to a second set win at 25-14.
The loss of the first two sets did not boast the morale of the Pakistanis while the Iranians got themselves a lead early on and were able to stick with it until the very end at 25-11.
