Iran’s Hossein Vafaei looking to make an appearance in pro tour of next snooker season
Emerging Iranian snooker star, young Hossein Vafaei will be participating in the upcoming 2012-13 Snooker Season as he has placed himself in the last of the entrants of next season.
He won the 2011 IBSF World Amateur Snooker Championship in December beating Wales’s Lee Walker by a close score line of 10-9 and booked his place in the pro tour ticket winners as per World Professional Billiard and Snooker Association (WPBSA).
The 17-year-old Iranian cueman showed impressive performance in the recently finished 2012 Seven-Nation International Snooker Championship at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Karachi, Pakistan and reached the final encounter of the event against Thailand’s
Thepchaiya Un-Nooh. He played outstandingly against the Thai potter but was not able to perform to the highest level and lost the final by the score line of 6-7.
However, with his win in the final of Amateur World Championship, the emerging Asian cueist will be playing among young potters from around the world. Vafaei is hoping for a good result in his pro tour campaign and is feeling confident to play against the
top guns of snooker.
Speaking to World Snooker about his ambition in the next season, Vafaei said, “I am very excited and determined to succeed on the pro circuit. I have played as a wild card in two ranking events in China and I can't wait to play in the big tournaments. My
target for the next two years is to win ranking tournaments and reach the top 16. I believe I can do this.”
The Iranian added, “I am very proud to be the first Iranian pro and I hope I can do well to make my people happy. My Federation has supported me enormously and I hope I can do well to make them proud.”
Vafaei will be moving to the UK to practice and prepare himself to take on the challenges ahead. He believes that after winning the Amateur Snooker Championship, he has achieved his late father’s dream and he will continue to live by his hopes. The new season
will commence with the Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 1. It will be interesting to see if Vafaei can carry some of his winning momentum forward into the next event.
