I can answer my own question. "Republican contender John McCain says he also believes withdrawals are likely in coming years, but that it would be dangerous to commit in advance to a firm timetable."

So, follow up: Why is McCain insisting on treating a sovereign nation like a small child who isn't allowed to make its own decisions?

  1. no, he's a grumpy old man. he's set in his ways.

  2. Because leaving before the country is secure risks OUR troops lives.

Why do all these obvious NON-veterans ask these kinds of questions??????

  3. Because unlike Obama who would withdraw unconditionally or worse, submit to Iraq's interests rather than America's, McCain recognizes that only when Iraq is sufficiently stable should we withdraw. While Iraq may no longer believe they need us there, it is not in our best interest to leave if we'll have to go back in the moment that the Iraqi's realize that they were wrong.

You see, there's the difference. Acting responsibly (McCain) versus acting politically (Obama). I know which I prefer.

  4. McCain is a POS just like Bush and the other POS that wont even salute the flag of the country the he wants to run(into the ground like Bush) they all suck and cant even run our country let alone another.

But who ever takes office should not withdraw forces not to as you said "treat a sovereign nation like a small child who isn't allowed to make its own decisions" but because it would be dangerous for Iraq to be on its own and if ...actually when something happend we would be blamed for not being there to help.

  5. Nice try fool.....Mc...Bush Bush Bush !!! Look at their records...McCain was a thorn in Bush`s side. America know`s better than you.

  6. They have one, it's called winning and the Iraqi's have conditions to meet prior to us leaving.  So when they have met the conditions we leave as victors.  Obama was wrong, he wanted to surrender 2 years ago, with a loss.  So the question really is, when is Obama going to admit McCain was right.

  7. Not so fast. Doesn't common sense tell you that if you set a date, you give the enemy something to shoot for?  It's up to the Iraqis, but I don't think it's a smart move to tell the bully when your body guard is leaving.

  8. when GWB invaded Iraq, McCain was against it, since then he's flipped over to supporting it. He can't change his mind again no matter how wrong his is now or how right he was then. After all the effort GWB has put into artificially creating crisis for him to respond to, it would be a shame for McSame not to try and ride the wave.

  9. The decision to invade Iraq is not actually something the UN is supportive of.  You are 100% right, we are treating this nation like a small child, when their nation is in fact much older and much more set in their ways.  We have done nothing but tear their country apart and make Americans that much more disagreeable through their eyes.

  10. McCain is irrelevant. Will never be a president.

  11. Because it would be really nice if this small sovereign nation was our friend instead of our foe. They act like they need babysat or they will fall prey to terrorists running the show again...then, what was the point for all the deaths to get this place back on its feet?

  12. Nah....

He'll just continuing saying, "The surge!  The surge!  The British are coming!", until he accidentally takes a senior nappy.

  13. Oopsies!!!!!

  14. Becaue the truth about the Bush war is finally coming out.  Bush wants a democracy in Iraq, but so long as the new democracy agrees with him.

McCain knew, KNEW, that he couldn't get the radical conservative base (and therefore the nomination) without supporting the war.  So he is forced to trumpet this fiasco.

Every day that passes, McCain is looking more and more like Bush - an inept leader who will 'stay the course' no matter what facts and circumstances, or reason for that matter, dictate.

  15. That's how a magician works. Cause a distraction over here so you can pull the wool over people's eyes

  16. Better yet, both McCain and Bush need to admit that Obama has been correct all along with this...

  17. I say we pull out now and create the greatest, most terrorist friendly nation on earth.  Of course I would imagine that we are getting wildly close to a wave of domestic terrorism since both of the proposed two party hacks are gonna drive the point home that the republic is dead.

People quit pretending that one of these candidates is better than the other.  They are the same except for one is black and one is old.

Two party system supporters need a little justice administered to them similar to the Spanish Civil war.

    Can't wait pigs.
