If I were to take a trip to Ireland, and stay there indefinitely, what would be the requirements as far as a passport is concerned?

Thanks!

  1. visa?

  2. A passport is needed to enter, it does not confer any rights to stay on indefinitely. You will be allowed to stay up to 90 days & show proof of a flight out of the country before the end of the 90 days. You can not just apply for citizenship like the other person suggests much the same as an Irish perosn cannot move to the USA & just apply for citizenship.

If you find an employer that wants to hire you they can apply for a work permit on your behalf. They have to be able to prove that thay have not been able to find an EU citizen to do the job which can be tricky enough if you are not highly specialised.

If you enter with your passport & a plan to stay indeffinetly then you will be an illegal immigrant.

  3. A regular USA Passport would be fine. When you get to Ireland, apply for citizenship. I don't know exactly how their process works. You might also have to let the US Government know of your plans. Check with the immigration department, they could tell you the details.

  4. Your USA passport will allow you to stay for three months only. You may need a return ticket to show that you are only staying for 3 months.

Otherwise if you wish to stay longer, you need to contact your nearest Irish consulate on their migration practices.  You will need to apply for a visa in order to stay longer than 3 months.

I found the Ireland Immigration site that explains the various visas that are available. You will have to pay and apply for one to stay longer than 3 months.  http://foreignaffairs.gov.ie/home/index....

  5. IDK but I luv Ireland 2 it is sooooo much more peaceful than the usa and it is soooooo pretty!!!
