Ireland Cricket team again hopeful to play in the 2015 World Cup
The Irish would be hopeful about the 2015 World Cup after the International Cricket Council Committee recommended a new qualification process.
In its two-day meeting at Lord’s, the committee, which included players, coaches, captains and media men from all the cricketing nations, discussed some key issue and made recommendations to the ICC Executive Board for approval.
The Irish all-rounder, Trent Johnston, also attended the meeting. In his post-meeting tweeting, Trent wrote, “Unanimous decision by ICC Cricket Committee to recommend to the Chief Exec Committee there be a qualifier for CWC 2015. A great result.”
Following the minnows’ lackluster World Cup campaign, the ICC announced that the four associate nations including Ireland, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748, would not be allowed to participate in the next edition of the 50-over showpiece, reducing the teams
to just 10.
ICC’s decision spread anger and disillusionment among the lesser cricketing nations, which lashed out on the council and even threatened to take legal action.
Some analysts termed it as a biased approach of the council which, they thought, was trying to safeguard the interests of the big nations.
To cool down minnows’ sentiments, the ICC president, Sharad Pawar, declared two weeks ago that the council would review its decision.
The matter was tabled in the recent meeting and all the members unanimously agreed to change the qualification system for the associate nations to play the 2015 World Cup.
However, cricket experts and analysts believe that the decision is not likely to be changed and the council is just putting out the fire temporarily.
The Irish cricketers and the cricket fans are rejoiced about the development and hope that the ICC will surely review the criteria.
Many in the cricket fraternity believe that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 deserves to play the World Cup as they have some World Class players who have demonstrated their capabilities in the World Cup 2007 and 2011.
In the 2007 edition, the Irish knocked http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 out of the tournament and in this edition, they defeated the English in a thriller of a match.
