  2. All I know, is that the President of Ireland is Mary McAleese

  3. Ireland is a republic and its leader is the prime minister or taoiseach. The current prime minister is Bertie Ahern. The presidency is instead a ceremonial office, and the current President is Mary McAleese. Laws are created and approved within the Dail (the parliament), which is elected by the population.

  4. Government- Democracy

    Leader- Collin Ferrel

Laws- No leprechauns in pubs after 9 PM

    Important document- Magna Carta

  6. The irish government is a constitutional republic, the USA is a federal republic.

We have a senate or upper house called the sheanad where bills are passed and examined, and the lower house called the Dail (pronounced DAWL).

Government is based on elected officals, elected by the people, there are no states in ireland , therefore there are no governors. An elected official is called a TD or (teachta Dail, = member of the Dail)

There are more than two parties to vote from, in fact there are many the party with the most elected officals holds power, it is not uncommon for two parties to share power in a coilition

The leader is called the Taoiseach (irish for big chief), this was the name given to the leader of a gaelic clann, the deputy leader is called the Tánaiste(irish for little chief). We also have a president but unlike the us this role is not to lead the country but to uphold the constitution and protect it. The president has limited powers but can disolve the dail and appoints the taoiseach.

By far the most important document in the republic of ireland is the constitution, it is a living document, ie it can be changed by the people in a referendum,it is quite a modern document and the past 20 years have seen many ammendments to reflect the changes in society.

The next important document would be the proclamation of independance, this was read out by padraig pearse in frount of the GPO, before the easter rising and the battle for independance in 1916- 1921.
