Why doesn't there seem to be much being done about them? Somebody told me the guards are terrified and just want a cushy job with a nice pension.

  1. Of course they are. The gardaí are just normal unarmed people at the end of the day. Would you fancy tackling, for example an armed criminal group in Limerick ,with just yourself and a squad car! Be careful you don't go upsetting any guards on this thing!

  2. I lived across from the family of The General in Ranelaugh.  His kids would beat people up, break into cars, and overall damage anything they could.  The garda would walk by, see them, and walk the other way texting or playing a game on their phone.....

  3. I wonder who that somebody is. I believe the guards do a very good job in relation to crime. They are by and large an unarmed force. There is an alarming trend in intimidation of potential witnesses who will not testify because of the fear of reprisals. There are more gun related crimes than ever before witnessed in the state. In the majority of cases the guards will know who these thugs are, but without crucial evidence, can not prosecute them. They are undermanned and in recent times are dealing with thugs from other countries who are finding easy pickings in Ireland. They are not terrified of anyone. Its more a case of their hands being tied because of gombeen legislation.

  4. Unarmed gardai are scared of armed criminal gangs who would not be, these people have little value on life and are not afraid to pull the trigger.

The Emergency Response Unit on the other hand have the capability to match the criminals with fire power.

Unfortunately the gardai can only do their best the problem is when it comes to court and sentencing, criminals get off with light prison terms can intimidate witness and get other thugs to run their empire when doing time.

  5. Well probably much like the USA,where the police know the bad guys.Nothing is done the mafia,is there own security system. This is at every level of govt

The gardai are no different, don't rock the boat.Take care of the small fry and everything is ok.Just that the irish thugs lack the finnese of the mafia.Sometimes the gardia look away.Unlike the cops in USA where they don't bother to look

  6. no i dont think they are... i go ther 4 times a year and they beat people up wen they shouldnt... i h8 them... if nething...the public are scared of the garda... last month wen i was in ireland a woman gard came up 2 me wen i was with with loads of frends and searched us... scared??! i think not

  7. The Irish Laws are still kind of old fashioned and its not that easy for a gardí to just takle the gangs but there still doing some thing about it.

Granted they could be better but our garda isn't such a big powerful force like the Americans for eg. but for dat reason there isn't as much corruption in it. - They'll look after the small guy and should be credited fot it!!

  8. I don't think the gardai are "terrified" of those gangs at all. Yeah the gardai are an unarmed police force for day to day policing but do they do have guns! Like do you think when they uncover a huge drugs seizure they go and raid these premises unarmed??of course not.

In my opinion these gangs are doing the Gardai a favour in a way by killing each other off through this "one for one" thing they've got going on...each time one of them kills another its one less scumbag on the streets causing bother.

However because of the increasing pressure from the public about it, they will have to put a policy in place soon to control whats happening.

  9. I would say they are and could you blame them. The criminals have guns the gardai have walketalkies .Can you read between the lines of why they would be scared?????????????????????????////
