Propelled by skipper George Dockrell’s crucial 4-wicket haul, the Ireland Under-19s succeeded in clinching a 14-run victory over the Nepal Under-19s during their ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012 match, played at the Endeavour Park in Townsville today on August
15.
The Ireland U-19s won the toss and elected to bat first, but 2 wickets hauls from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321 Vishvakarma (10-0-31-2), and Bhuvan Karki 10-0-43-2) ensured that the Irish were restricted to a mediocre total
of 185.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shane-Charles-Getkate-c89657 (47) proved to be the anchors of Ireland’s innings,
setting up a 71-run stand which got the team up to 106 by the 32nd over, after which Karki intervened, dismissing both batsmen.
Tyrone Kane featured as the most prominent middle order batsman, remaining not out at 39, and aided by small contributions from lower order batsmen such as Scott http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 U-19s to finish at a final total
of 185 for 8 by the end of 50 overs.
Although the total was barely substantial, the Irish bowlers managed to defend it quite effectively, with Player of the Match Dockrell (10-3-22-4) leading the attack, supported by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graeme-J-McCarter-c60498 (7-0-31-2) and Coughlan (10-0-39-2).
Nepal’s innings featured mediocre performances from most batsmen, with a few highlights in the form of wicketkeeper batsman Subash Khakurel (31), skipper Prithu Baskota (20), Pradeep Airee (29), and Rahul Vishvakarma (who top-scored for his side with 32).
McCarter’s dismissal of opener Sagar Pun (8) triggered a batting order collapse, and Dockrell followed up by cleaning up the remainder of the top order – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naresh-c78656 Budayair (5) and Hasim Ansari (0) were both dismissed, one after the other, in the 10th
over, while Khakurel was sent packing, lbw, in the 18th over.
Baskota and Airee managed to set up the highest partnership on their side – a 37-run 6th-wicket stand which got the team up to 106 by the 33rd over. However, despite their contribution, followed by the efforts of  Vishvakarma, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965
were unable to complete the chase successfully, and finished at 171 all out – 14 runs short of their target.
