Ireland Women v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 Tri-Nation Women's One-Day Series (1st match) – Match Update
Courtesy an unbeaten century by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Syeda-Nain-Fatima-Abidi-c92397, the Pakistan Women team kicked off the Ireland Tri-Nation Women's One-Day Series with a comprehensive 42-run win over the Ireland Women at the YMCA Cricket Club in Dublin on August 22.
Having won the toss, the Pakistan Women elected to bat first, and their innings was based on a few solid partnerships which propelled them to a final team total of 254, despite the efforts of Ireland’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Isobel-Mary-Helen-Cecilia-Joyce-c64615 (10-1-37-2) and Laura Delany (8-0-47-1).
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qanita-Jalil-c82844 (42) opened for their side, setting up a solid foundation of 53 runs, before the former was dismissed by Joyce in the 11th over. Qanita Jalil then went on to set up a 29-run stand with Nain Abidi (101*), which came
to an end with the former’s dismissal in the 19th over – also at the hands of Joyce.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bismah-Maroof-c48136 (29) followed her to the pavilion, and joined Abidi for a 74-run partnership which got their side up to 156 by the 37th over. Maroof was swept off the pitch by Delany, but she was the last batter to be dismissed. Her successor Javeria
Khan (41*) teamed up with the invincible Abidi to contribute a combined unbeaten total of 98 runs, which got their side up to a final score of 254 runs, at the expense of just 3 wickets.
Interruptions due to rain brought the target for the Ireland Women down to 224 from 39 overs (as per D/L method calculations). However, clumsy running on the batters’ part (which led to 4 run-outs), coupled with the efforts of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sana-Mir-c88459 (8-0-35-2), Sadia
Yousuf (8-0-32-1), and Nida Dar (7-0-30-1), did not allow the Ireland Women to make any headway, and they eventually found themselves cut off at 181 by the end of 39 overs – 42 runs short of the target.
Opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cecelia-Nora-Isobel-Mary-Joyce-c49365 (0) were dismissed after contributing paltry scores, and while Kim Garth
(39) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Eimear-Ann-Jermyn-Richardson-c55815 (29) attempted to get the innings back on track, they were unable to steer the team towards victory.
With the lower order failing to rise above single-digit scores, the Ireland Women eventually conceded a 42-run defeat to the Pakistan Women in the series opener.
