In the ongoing Women's European Championship Twenty20, the Scotland Women team beat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 by two wickets after successfully overcoming a target of 72 runs in a game which was played at Kampong, Utrecht.
After winning the toss, Ireland chose to bat first in a bid to post maximum runs on the board to put pressure on the opposition, however, the Scots made early inroads by grabbing the wicket of opener Kim Garth, who after scoring two runs off three deliveries
had her stumps knocked over by a sensational delivery bowled by Kathryn White in the first over.
When the score was on just eight runs, Ireland suffered another loss when the number three batswoman Laura Delany went back to the pavilion without scoring a run as she was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Fiona-Elaine-Urquhart-c57024 off the bowling of White.
While Ireland’s opener/skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Isobel-Mary-Helen-Cecilia-Joyce-c64615 batted splendidly, wickets from the other end kept falling at random as in the fifth over Rebecca Rolfe after contributing just two runs also fell to her demise when she was run-out. At the time for her wicket,
the team had managed to post 20 runs on the board.
In the next over the 19-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leigh-Megan-Kasperek-c72440 wrecked havoc on the opposition when she claimed the wickets of Emma Flanagan and Shauna Kavanagh as both players went back to the pavilion without scoring a run. This was an obvious spot of bother for Ireland
as they needed batswomen to retain their wickets to post a formidable tally on the board.
However, the Scots did not stop mounting the pressure on the opposition as they bowled superbly to make sure not to let the game get out of their hands.
It was then wicketkeeper Mary Waldron, who forged a commendable partnership with Joyce as both batswomen tried to craft a defiant stand against Ireland. Joyce departed in the 12th over when after playing a knock of 29 runs off 28 deliveries she
was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kari-Anderson-c70292. At the time of her departure, Ireland had managed to post 47 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets.
Waldron played an innings of 16 runs off 31 deliveries before losing her wicket to Wilkinson as she was handsomely caught by White. In the end, Ireland managed to post 72 runs on the board giving Scotland a target of 73 runs to win from 20 overs.
Scotland needed a stable start to earn a victory in the match; however, they suffered a turbulent start to their innings as on the second over of their innings, the Scots lost the services of opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Charlotte-Louise-Bascombe-c50505 who after playing a knock of one run
was caught by Kavanagh off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amy-Johanna-Kenealy-c44147.
