Question:

Ireland and race relations?

I was just wondering! Does Ireland have all the problems France, Germany, Holland, and England ( to name a few) has with Africans or Muslims living in their country? Do they have areas of the inner cities that are predomiently black or muslim? Certain areas where its unsafe? Western Europe was very liberal in the past about letting foreigners come to their country and it looks like it backfiredd and caused problems. Certain races would go looking for a welfare handout... Did Ireland make that mistake?

  1. JUST ABOUT RIGHT, IRELAND WAS TAKEN BY SUPRISE( MORE EMIGRATION THAN IMMIGRATION ) , BUT DON'T FORGET THE CONSTITUTION HAS BEEN CHANGED . THERE WAS A TIME WHEN IT WAS VERY UNSAFE , GETTING MUGGED IS BAD , BUT GETTING MUGGED BY SOMEONE FROM EASTERN EUROPE MEANT YOU COULD BE KILLED TOO . MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO MOVED TO IRELAND HAVE INTEGRATED BY NOW AND THERE IS A SECOND GENERATION . THERE IS STILL A LOT OF RESENTMENT , ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO STILL COLLECT WELFARE AND THOSE WHO BLATANTLY BREAK THE LAW .

  2. Only recently has Ireland become a multicultural society, say in the last 8-10 years. We have no area's yet that are predomiently black or muslim, they are spread all throughout, the inner city area's are made up of Irish and the foreign national's would be a minority here. However, we have got a high percentage of the forien nationals(nigerians, romanians) that are over here and on welfare benefits, which is leading to a rise in racial tensions, because Irish people are seeing them been given handouts(they even get money for cars and insurance here), there are cases of them demanding to ride on buses for free etc, which is making locals angry, because we are working our guts out and paying for everything, while these seem to get an easy ride. A lot of the foreign population in Ireland at the moment is now made up of Polish people, there are roughly 120,000 Polish people living here, but these are hard workers and have blended in with the Irish way of life.
