Ireland comfortably placed at 109 runs for two wicket, first 25 overs – 2nd ODI against Pakistan
Ireland scored 109 runs at the end of the 25th over for the loss of two wickets and was in full control of the game. Paul Stirling demonstrated offensive cricket and was unbeaten on 72 runs.
The match is being organised at Civil Service Cricket Club, Stormont, Belfast, today, 30th May, 2011.
The Irish captain, William Porterfield, won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping to put a solid score on board which can be defended easily by their bowlers.
Ireland made no changes in the squad that played in the first ODI and Pakistan brought in Hammad Azam and Azhar Ali.
The innings was opened by Ed Joyce and Paul Stirling and Pakistan started up with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Umar-Gul-c94604 and Junaid Khan who kept on with an accurate line and length.
The openers started cautiously and scored just two runs in the initial two overs and the third over bowled by Umar was a maiden over.
Sterling opened up his shoulders in the fourth over and smashed a six which floated over the square leg Boundary. They took the score to 26 at the end of the sixth over and initiated attack on the bowling.
Stirling was aggressive of the two and punched a four and one six in the seventh over from Umar and accomplished a total of 50 runs in nine overs.
The promising spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859, was introduced in the 11th over by Misbah-Ul-Haq to control the game.
He produced the result on the third delivery of the 15th over when Joyce was caught behind on 17 runs and the first wicket contributed 65 runs which provided a solid base for the innings.
Captain, Porterfield, joined in with Stirling who was performing well at the other end and completed his fifty on the fifth ball of the 17th over by Ajmal, hitting a four.
He completed his fifty in 43 balls with the help of two sixes and five fours and was becoming a threat for Pakistani bowlers.
Hafeez claimed the second wicket for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 when he got rid of Porterfield once he had scored 15 runs and the total reached at 108 runs.
