The Irish men scored another dominant victory against the Welsh men by 4-1 in the third and final match of the series which was played on June 14, at the National Hockey Stadium, University College Dublin (UCD), in Dublin, Ireland.
“I am very pleased with the big improvements made in the last two matches in terms of organizing the defence and passing in the final third. We only conceded a corner and pressed hard throughout the game,” Arul Anthoni, the assistant coach of the Irish men’s
hockey team explained after the conclusion.
Irish team displayed probably their best performance of the series in this match, where they totally dominated their rivals unlike the other two matches. The first match went to the Irish men in which they defeated the Welsh men by 3-2, while the second
game ended in a draw by 2-2.
However, in the third and final match of the series the Irish men played wonderful hockey throughout the match and especially in the second half in which they scored three out of their four goals.
In the first half, the Irish men maintained good pressure and made circle penetrations into their opponents’ circle, but the Welsh team demonstrated good defence tactics and did not allow Ireland to do any damage.
However, the luck was with Ireland who succeeded to score in the final minute of the first half on a penalty-corner. The Irish team was awarded four penalty corners in first half from which they could only convert one into a goal. John Jermyn scored the
opening goal for Ireland with a drag flick. The first half ended at 1-0 to Ireland.
Second half totally belonged to Ireland as they once again broke the Welsh defence-line in the 44th minute and once again John Jermyn scored it for the Irish team. However after two minutes, in the 46th minute the Welsh team was awarded
penalty-stroke, which Rick g*y perfectly put in the net and thus reduced the Irish lead to one goal.
The last thirteen minutes were full of action as the Irish team scored their last two goals in quick successions. The third goal was scored in 57th minute while the fourth one was scored in 59th minute. This time the goal-scorer was
