Ireland defeats Egypt by 2-0 in the first match of three Test match series in Ireland
Ireland defeated Egypt by 2-0 in the opening match of the three Test match series, which is being played at University College Dublin (UCD), in Dublin, Ireland. The match was played today, on June 29.
The Irish men finished at the second place after Pakistan, in the recently-concluded Four-Nations Tournament that was played at UCD in Dublin, Ireland.
In their previous match at UCD that was played yesterday, the Irish men defeated the China by 2-1 in a convincing style.
The Irish men clearly dominated the entire match from the very start to the end having possessed the ball for most of the time in the first as well as in the second half. Although they maintained severe pressure on the Egyptians in both of the periods, yet
their best efforts came into play in the second half in which they scored both the goals.
The Irish men added pressure on their opponents in the first half, whereas their best opportunity came in 19th minute, when they were awarded a penalty-corner, but the Egyptians defended their goal-post pretty well by denying Irish opportunity
of the opening goal. The Egyptian outfit too had their chances in the first half but they were unable to pass through the strong Irish defence. The first half ended at 0-0.
In the second half, Egypt played more aggressively as compared to the first half, which led the Irish men to come up with more counter-attacks. The Irish did the same and it paid them with two more goals in the later part of the second half. The first of
the two goals was scored by Maguire, while the second and the final goal of the match was scored by Peter Caruth from a build-up field effort by John Jackson in the 58th minute.
The first of the remaining two matches of the three Test match series will be played on Thursday, while the third and the final match is underway on Friday at the same venue, the National Stadium, UCD in Dublin.
