Ireland fails to give new coach victory against Scotland – Rugby League news
Ireland was unable to give an impressive start to their new coach, Mark Aston, in the inaugural encounter of the European Triangular tournament at Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow, with a score break up of 6-26 against the Scottish squad on Sunday, October 16.
Scotland clinched an impressive victory with ten debutants onboard. Rugby can never be labeled as a one man show but at times individuals do make their mark. David Scott was one of the debutants who was the highlight of the showdown, with two tries along
with two goal kicks, to his credit in his very first game.
Other tries for the Scottish side were scored by Paddy Coupar, Josh Barlow and Alex Hurst. Coupar and Barrow were also lauded for their contributions in their very first game with Scotland. Hurst had also booted a goal, playing his bit in celebrations by
the Scottish side.
The Scots dominated from the beginning but Ireland inched closer to bridge up the gap and in the 19th minute the score was levelled. Ireland clawed their way back into the game with a score from Liam Finn, who also had a goal to his credit.
While talking about Sunday night’s clash, Scotland coach Steve McCormack said, "I'm delighted with the victory and the performance. The blend of debutants and younger players with our senior players was excellent. David Scott will get the headlines and rightly
so with that performance - he has enormous potential. It's testament to the work put in with the development team and player pathway we have created."
The coach acknowledged the extraordinary on field skills exhibited by Scott in his very first encounter which were worthy of praise and appreciation. While mentioning that the player still has a lot of potential, he also highlighted the how well the team
has honed its performance.
