What are the laws for owning and carrying a firearm in Ireland?

Plain and simple we arent allowed them, if they are hunting riffles u need a permit, guns are not easily come across in ireland.... thankfully.

we're not America. guns aren't handed out like toys. hence we have no high school massacres. so don't even bother asking coz we're not interested in becoming America with it's crazy gun laws and even crazier followers.

They're fairly illegal, especially if you're carrying an M16 down the road from copper faced jacks and caught by 2 off duty gardai.

"To be eligible to hold a firearms certificate (also called a "gun licence"), you must be aged over 16 years, and in the judgement of the awarding authority (Superintendent of the Garda Síochána [Irish police]), be of good character and sound mind and have a valid reason for holding a firearm."
