Ireland name squad for U-19 World Cup – Cricket News Update
Ireland, on Monday announced its squad for next month’s Under-19 Cricket World Cup, to be held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. George Dockrell, the 19-year-old Dublin-born left-arm orthodox bowler, who has also played 30 One Day Internationals, will skipper the side in the
esteemed tournament.
A total of 16 teams divided into four groups will contest in this year’s Under 19 Cricket World Cup, to be held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834, Australia, between August 11 and 26. Ireland have been placed in Group A, which also includes defending Champions Australia, England
and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965, and will play their opening fixture of the tournament against England Under-19 on August 12.
Dockrell, who has 37 ODI wickets from 30 appearances, said that the Irish have emerged as a fighting unit over the last few years, adding that they would not be a “walkover” for oppositions in the next month’s high-profile competition.
"Teams know we won't be a walkover and we're going to give them a good fight. They know they're going to have to be at their best as we can challenge them and potentially beat them," Dockrell said.
"There's an expectation now surrounding Irish cricket as the senior side has done so well in previous World Cups with a number of big scalps and we'll be attempting to emulate that success."
"…we'd like to take the spirit and attitude of the senior squad into our cricket and hopefully get a major scalp at this tournament," he added further.
The latest edition of the U-19 World Cup Kick starts in Townsville, on August 11, with defending champions Australia taking on traditional rivals England. In the previous edition, held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in 2010, Ireland had finished 10th.
