Ireland names Rugby World Cup squad in leadership of Brian O'Driscoll - Rugby News
Ireland has submitted its final squad for Rugby World Cup starting next month in New Zealand. Irish coach Declan Kidney made the announcement of his selected crew on August 22, which has 16 forwards and 14 backs. Skipper Brian O’Driscoll and Paul O’Connell
are the most experienced players of the side as they will participate in their third global show with Ireland. Luke Fitzgerald, Tomas O'Leary and Conor Murray will miss the largest event of this year as Kidney side lined the trio for their unimpressive performance
in last few games.
Making the announcement of Irish squad, Kidney admitted that he has made enormously tough decisions regarding the selection of final 30 mixes. He added that, “With the quality of people that are there at the moment the difficulty in picking the squad is
not who to pick — because I’m delighted with the boys who are picked — but in who not to pick,”
The coach further explained that some guys had been working really hard to make their place in the Rugby World Cup delegation and they have made it possible with huge struggles. While, describing his strategy for world showpiece starting just over couple
weeks in New Zealand, he said that warm-up games’ policy will be maintained.
He shifted his conversation and said that, “For everybody it was the exact same. I said we would take a look at what we knew people could do, we would take a look at how last season finished, how the guys went through pre-season, how guys would go through
the (warm-up) games and then we would add it all up and see who would be the best ones for us.”
