Ireland sweeps Luxembourg in a CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship match
A match of the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship- Small Countries Division took place on April 6.
The Scottish city of Motherwell welcomed the two teams from Ireland as well as that of Luxembourg. The outcome of the match was a clean sweep by the Irish over their Luxembourg counterparts.
Not only did the Irish win the match by securing three sets back to back, they were able to stay in control of the match all through its entire length. At no point in the match could the Luxembourg players able to provide their rivals with a significant
challenge. By the time that the match had reached its close, the score board showed the following final set scores:25-11, 25-14 and 25-11.
The coach of the Irish team, Laurent Cauet, expressed his happiness with the outcome of the match in the following manner, “This was our third match and we took another big step forward for a very promising junior national team. We had a really good start
to the first set which gave us confidence. We tried to keep things simple. The team now understands that they can have control of the game. It was good as we began to have control of the things that we wanted to do on court. The good thing is that we disrupt
the game plan of our opposition with our unique style of play.”
The first set of the game gave the lead to the Irish soon after its start. The Luxembourg players tried to overtake their opponents and managed to come close.
However, they were unable to overtake their rivals. As a result, the Irish were able to speed on ahead and grab themselves the opening set of the game at 25-11.
The start of the second set was better for the Luxembourg squad as they kept the score level for the initial part of the game.
However, the Irish took control of the set once again and managed to take the lead for themselves. It was only a matter of time after that the second set was secured by them at 25-14.
The third set of the match unrolled in the same manner as the previous two and ended in a win for the Irish at 25-11.
