Bangladesh 146/6 (20/20 ov) v Ireland 145/6 (20.0/20 ov) - Bangladesh won by 1 run
With cricket becoming more and more exciting each day, fans witnessed a nerve thrashing match between minnows Ireland and Bangladesh at Civil Service Cricket Club, Stormont, Belfast, on Friday, July 20, where the touring team from Bangladesh managed to secure a narrow win only by a run against Ireland, successfully defending a total of 146 runs.
With this win, Bangladesh have taken the series after having won the first match.
The second match was Ireland’s last chance to level the series, and they needed this victory more than anything else.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh had chosen to bat first in order to post a big total on the board, but suffered an early demise of top opener Tamim Iqbal on nil.
While opener, Mohammad Ashraful, chipped in 38 runs, it was Nasir Hossain who stole the show by his half century right at the end of the innings, that helped Bangladesh post enough runs on the board to give their opponents a run for their money.
Needing 147 runs to win the match, Ireland openers WTS Porterfield and PR Stirling gave their team an opening stand of 31 runs, before Porterfield ran out after scoring 14 runs.
Stirling was then joined by EC Joyce as the two batsmen took the score to 49 runs, before the partnership came to an end on the wicket of Stirling, who could score only 26 runs off 20 deliveries.
Just when Bangladesh saw themselves coming back in the match, the partnership between Joyce and GC Wilson proved fatal as the two batmen began smashing the bowlers without remorse.
This partnership actually put the side on a track heading towards victory. Finally with 104 runs on the board, the intimidating partnership came to an end on the wicket of Wilson, who found his way off the field after scoring 37 runs.
KJ O'Brien continued his bad form as he departed after scoring a meagre innings of five runs. Things might have been a bit different had Joyce stayed on the wicket till the end of the game, but his departure on the penultimate delivery of the match cost the home team this game as the batsman fell on a tally of 41 runs.
