Ireland v Bangladesh: Irish look to hunt Tigers – ICC World Cup 2011
Finally the World Cup is becoming competitive. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 and Australia are currently playing and secretly everyone wants the Black Caps to do well to give the calamity struck nation something to smile about.
But the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup 2011 will begin in the true sense in the latter half of the day when Ireland and Bangladesh clash.
The two “unpredictable minnows” will be fighting for their first win in the tenth edition of the World Cup, today, 25th February, at Shere Bangla National Stadium Mirpur, Dhaka.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 was drubbed by co-hosts of the tournament, India, by 87 runs in the opening game of the World Cup on 19 February on the same ground. But the clash against Ireland promises to be a tougher competition.
Both teams started off as minnows in the International cricket circuit, however, Bangladesh rose to the occasion due to the exposure they had to the game, being in the cricket-crazy South Asian region.
Ireland was the original team that began the whole “World Cup upset” trend. But they will be battling a problem going into this year’s World Cup, four years after they nudged big shots, Pakistan, out of the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.
Everyone will now expect the Irish team to repeat their giant killing performance.
They are placed in Group B, along with clear World Cup favourites, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 and Ryan ten Doeschate need to
be tackled as well.
Not to mention co-hosts and the hard-working Bengali Tigers and daresay, there is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 as well in Group B but it doesn’t matter.
Ireland will always be remembered in history as the side, who drubbed a very strong and talented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 side in the 2007 World Cup, to reach the Super Eights. Doesn’t it sound like we are talking about a Guinness Record?
Whilst the infamous events of the 2007 edition of the tournament was more talked about than http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s third consecutive win, Ireland’s feat provided some insight to the beautiful game of cricket and how any team can win on a given day.
The Irish players have the ability to reach greater heights. But they don’t have the experience, minus, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ed-Joyce-c1417. Joyce will be returning to the squad after he was granted a “special dispensation”, playing for the national team of England as well.
To make their mark in the tournament, even though their morale have been flattened by the non-Associate teams policy in 2015, the Irish squad must cash on whatever experience they have.
The 2007 vintage crop is all there, captain, William Porterfield, Trent Johnston, Andre Botha, Andrew White, and Boyd Rankin. The O’Brien brothers, Kevin and Niall are also in the squad.
The young crop includes Paul Stirling and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Dockrell-c59135, the pair has ample experience playing in the county.
Rankin will be ruffling a few feathers to lift the ball high on the spin-friendly deck of Mirpur in the opening and closing overs, while Botha would have to work the ball in the middle overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751’s batting will depend upon their skipper establishing himself as the ever dependable rock of the lucky Irish. Porterfield himself is confident about repeating the 2007 feat, eyeing a quarter-final berth but before doing that they have to face the
wrath of the Tigers.
