Bangladesh 205 all out 49.2 overs
Co-hosts, Bangladesh, were rocked by the firepower in the Irish ranks as the battle amongst the two minnows in Group B seems to be heading in favour of the Irish team at the mid-innings break.
The Tigers won the toss and opted to bat first on a wicket that looked full of runs at Mirpur. The packed crowd was in raptures early on as the openers flayed a quick fire 53 off the first 6.3 overs of the innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamim-Iqbal-c2640 and Imrul Kayees were in fluent form smashing the ball to all parts of the ground, they rattled along and looked set for a big partnership.
However, there was a stutter in store for the Bangladeshis.
Kayees was dismissed by John Mooney for 12 runs. He was more of an onlooker with the onslaught by Tamim on the other end.
The next three wickets also fell quickly as the Bangladeshis lacked discipline with the bat and went for reckless shots.
Junaid Siddiqui was dismissed for 3 runs with Tamim following him to the pavilion after a stroke filled 44 that came off only 43 balls and included 7 hits to the fence.
Muhfiqur Rehman and Raqibul Hasan added 61 runs for the fifth wicket to bring the team back on track. The hosts looked set for a big total or at least one where they could have been in the driver’s seat but suffered four successive blows that left them reeling at 170/8 in the 43rd over of the innings.
The last few batsmen hung around but were unable to add enough runs on the board struggling to get past the 200 run mark at the end. The innings ended at 205 in the 50th over of the innings.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naeem-Islam-c2053 with 28 was the best scorer amongst the lower order. He hit 3 fours in his innings.
The Irish bowlers had a hold on the Bangladeshis for most part of the innings sans the onslaught at the start. Andre Botha and Trent Johnston were the two successive bowlers taking 3 and 2 wickets’ respectively for their team.
The hosts would have to put in a real effort if they are to stop Ireland from overhauling the target.
