Irish are on a roll in International Cricket Council's (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Intercontinental Cup as they thrashed Canada by 56 runs in eight ODI of the tournament and registered their fourth win on trot.
The match that was played at Clontarf Cricket Club Ground, Dublin, saw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 post 249 runs for the loss of seven wickets while the visitors were dismantled for 193 runs.
Irish skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/WTS-Porterfield-c2801, won the toss and without wasting a moment decided to bat first as it has paid for him in last couple of games.
Canadian new ball bowlers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ed-Joyce-c1417 and Porterfield, to free their arms by bowling close to the stumps.
Joyce got tired of being bought down and attempted to break the shackles. The batsman smashed couple of boundaries before getting out on the last ball of sixth over, bowled by Baidwan.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AR-Cusack-c1075 came out in the middle to replace Joyce, who scored 14 runs. Both Cusack and Porterfield started to rebuild the innings and contributed 59 runs for the second wicket.
The on-field romance between Cusack and the Irish skipper came to an end in 16th over when Junaid Siddiqui bowled an absolute ripper to see the back of 30-year-old Cusack. The right-hander contributed 21 runs from 26
balls.
Porterfield (53) reached a mini milestone but the skipper could not convert his half-century into a big score. The batsman tried to flick a shot off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zahid-c98463 Hussain’s bowling, towards leg-side but got a leading edge which flew towards
midwicket where Siddiqui accepted it gladly.
There were some good partnerships lower down the batting order. The fifth, sixth and seventh wicket partnerships fetched 63, 23 and 33 runs respectively. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Wilson-c1474 and Kevin O’Brien were the major contributors with 44 and 43
runs.
Badiwan was the most successful bowler from Canadian side and bagged two wickets while conceding 61 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DT-Johnston-c1405 was the curator of first wicket. The experienced medium pacer bowled a short delivery
to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657 while the batsman failed to keep the ball down and played it down the throat of third man, Kevin O’Brien.
Irish team showed great athleticism, as next three batsmen to make their way back to the dressing room were all victim of superb piece of fielding.
Canadian team were struggling as half of their batting brigade was back in the pavilion with just 105 runs on the board. The skipper of Maple Leaves, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 Hansra, along with Hamza Tariq showed some resistance as they piled 46
runs for the sixth wicket.
But once, Irish bowlers brought an end to Hansra and Tariq’s partnership it was smooth sailing for the hosts. Ireland dislodged last four batsmen for just 42 thus winning the match by 56 runs.
