Ireland v Canada - http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Intercontinental Cup One-Day – Match Recap
Ireland 328/6 (50 ov); Canada 195 (48.4 ov) - Irish won by 133 runs
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 by 133 runs to register their third successive win of the tournament.
The match that was played at Clontarf Cricket Club Ground, Dublin, saw the home side post 328 runs for the loss of six wickets while the visiting Canadian side was dismantled for 195 runs in their reply.
Canadian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JM-Anderson-c1705 Hansra, won the toss and invited the Irish side to bat first. Hansra’s decision of bowling first proved to be wrong as his bowlers failed to cope with the blitz of Irish vanguards.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PR-Stirling-c2200 targeted the bowlers from the word go. Both batsmen charged ahead and played lofted shots whenever the ball was pitched short. The opening partnership between the two batters fetched 43 runs.
Stirling was the first one to depart and became Harvir Baidwan’s victim. The 21-year-old, who looked good for his 26 runs, tried to chip the ball over the bowlers head but failed, giving Baidwan a simple catch.
Irish skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Peter-Hewitt-c66001. He did not waste any time in settling in and laid complete support to Joyce, who was dominating the proceedings at that point.
Junaid Siddiqui brought an end to Joyce and Porterfield’s on-field companionship. The Irish skipper could not convert his fifty into a big score and got out after scoring 67 runs.
Joyce, who scored 88 runs, was next man to go and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rizwan-Cheema-c2328 did the rest.
Incoming Irish batsmen continued the good work. The O'Brien brothers, Neil O'Brien and Kevin O'Brien, played their part in propelling Ireland beyond 300 with scores of 37 and 35 respectively. While, Gary Wilson’s unbeaten innings
of 56 runs did not go unnoticed.
The Maple Leaves had a decent start as their openers, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DT-Johnston-c1405, hampered their flow by notching two wickets, those of
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Gunasekera-c2231 (0), in the 8th over.
John Mooney joined in on the party as he showed Kumar (26) the door in the 14th over. Canadian skipper, along with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Dockrell-c59135 was able
to deceive Hansra and bowled him out, bringing an end to their resistance.
Limbada was the highest scorer from the Canadian side but the batsman failed to add any tally to his score after reaching fifty.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Francis-Mooney-c67825, the right-arm medium pacer, ripped through the rest of Canadian batting order in quick session as the Maple Leaves trembled from 140 for five to 195 all out. Mooney was the highest wicket taker and bagged four wickets
for 27.
Canada will look to avenge the defeat when both teams lock horns once again at the same venue on Tuesday, September 20, 2011.
