Ireland v Namibia – 4-day Match – 2nd Day’s Summary
Namibia 244 & 58/1 (20.0 ov) v Ireland 298 -
Namibia lead by 4 runs with 9 wickets remaining
After ending the first day by posting 75 runs for the loss of four wickets in the four-day match of the ongoing International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Intercontinental Cup, 2011-2013, Ireland started the second day’s proceedings hoping to bat throughout the
day to post enough runs on the board against rivals Namibia.
It was Andrew White and Kevin O'Brien from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 who took the field in a bid to score more runs in their overnight tallies of 20 and 24 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964, on the other hand knew that this was the last batting pair that could cause problems for them and with O'Brien on the crease things could get out of their hands in no time.
However, in the 24th over of the innings O'Brien after reaching the tally of 30 runs off 38 deliveries was caught by the Namibian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-David-Williams-c51678 off the bowling of Christoffel Viljoen. At the time of this wicket, the Irish had posted only
85 runs on the board.
With O'Brien back in the pavilion, the Namibians took a sigh of relief as they knew that they had dismissed the dangerous batsman capable of ripping apart any bowling attack on a given day.
Nonetheless, their troubles were not over as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Francis-Mooney-c67825 forged a remarkable partnership with White as both batsmen took the opposition to task by displaying some sensational batting.
The duo scored 69 runs in the sixth wicket partnership, taking the total score to 154 runs before they suffered the loss of Mooney’s wicket who after clobbering an innings of 44 runs off 58 deliveries was caught by Erasmus at short extra-cover off the bowling
of Stephan Baard.
Baard then struck again on the last delivery of the same over when he shattered the stumps of wicketkeeper/batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stuart-William-Poynter-c91525 who failed to score a single run.
Just when Namibia thought that things were beginning to go their way, another Irishman stood defiant against them as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Dockrell-c59135 crafted a handy partnership of 100 runs with White as both batsmen smashed the bowlers all around the park.
The two batsmen took the score to 254 runs, before Dockrell after smashing an astounding innings of 53 runs was caught by Snyman at short fine leg off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 der Westhuizen.
In the end, Ireland posted 298 runs on the board with White staying unbeaten after playing an exuberant innings of 123 runs.
Coming out to bat in their second innings, Namibia lost their first wicket in the fourth over of the innings when opener Helao Nafidi Ya http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graeme-J-McCarter-c60498 after scoring only two runs.
It was then opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephanus-Theodorus-Ackermann-c91021 and Christoffel Viljoen who stood fast against the opposition as they managed to score 58 runs before the match was stopped due to rain.
Ackermann is batting on seven runs off 61 deliveries while Viljoen is still on the crease after playing a handsome knock of 48 runs off 49 deliveries.
From Namibia Viljoen was the pick of the bowlers as he grabbed five wickets in 23.5 overs.
